Private schools mean the rich buy privilege and social access for their children; those who attend private school have significantly better life chances than those at comprehensives, for private schools enable pupils to get ahead in terms of higher education and employment.
Private schools seriously hinder the chances for social equality. RISE wants to abolish them.
In immediate terms, we’ll campaign to end their “charitable” status which allows private schools avoid paying up to 80% of their taxes, whilst reducing the fee costs for wealthy parents.
In state schools, the so-called ‘attainment gap’ will not be solved by national testing, which only creates damaging competition and league tables, but instead by creating an education system that is truly equal, where all children are given opportunities to prosper.
