Cuts

RISE AGAINST CUTS

RISE is 100% anti-austerity, and will campaign alongside trade unions, workers and communities to resist Tory cuts at every level, demanding that councillors and MSPs refuse to implement a single penny of Westminster’s cuts.

RISE proposes a No Cuts budget for Scotland, and help build a massive campaign to demand back the £billions stolen by Westminster, to balance the books, rather than devolve the cuts to councils, colleges or other bodies.

Fair Pay

RISE FOR FAIR PAY

RISE will seek to end the culture of low wages; we want to see a minimum salary of £20,000, with a £10 per hour minimum wage for all public sector workers, to increase in line with inflation.

In public companies, no directors or managers should be paid huge amounts: these huge pay packets encourage corruption, not quality services, and so we would campaign to for a maximum wage of £100,000 per year within both the public and private sector.

We will also fight for proper enforcement and regulation on gender pay inequalities.

RISE FOR GREEN JOBS

We want to create 100,000 skilled, environmentally-friendly jobs, as well as build 100,000 sustainable council houses.

transport.jpg

Free Public Transport

RISE FOR FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Public transport should no longer be run by private companies seeking huge profits; we aim to bring control of public transport back into the hands of the public, to create a free network of buses and trains that serve not just those routes that make the most money, but the most isolated and rural communities as well.

carers.jpg

Unpaid Carers

RISE FOR UNPAID CARERS

Unpaid work is work. Scotland’s carers work outrageously hard and save the public purse millions every year. But they are paid a pittance, and most get nothing.

We will end this injustice by ensuring all carers receive the living wage, paid for by the state.

Recent cuts to care services by local councils have left disabled people without real choice. We believe these services should be restored and fully funded through progressive taxation to allow all citizens to live with dignity.

tax.jpg

Tax Justice

RISE FOR TAX JUSTICE

RISE will use Scotland’s new income tax powers to protect the poorest and most vulnerable from damaging Tory cuts. We’re willing to admit that the rich and the well-off must pay more to achieve this. We want to replace council tax – which unfairly disadvantages the poorest – with a progressive Scottish Service Tax based on individual incomes, and paid to local councils. We want Scotland to fight against corporate tax dodgers by halting HMRC closures and deploying serious resources to fight tax evasion.

Living Rent

RISE FOR LIVING RENT

We say no more to unaffordable, overpriced rents, and will campaign for a living rent to be introduced, based on an independent assessment of affordability so that ordinary people are not spending huge amounts of their wages on rent.

We want to introduce: open-ended contracts so that tenants are secure in their homes and not subject to arbitrary rent-increases or evictions; fines for landlords who don’t keep their properties up to the Scottish Quality Housing Standard.

We want tenants to be in control of where they live, and so we also propose that tenants make decisions about the running of our 100,000 new social houses.

workers.jpg

Workplace

RISE FOR WORKERS

We will campaign to end all anti-union laws, and guarantee workers the right to trade union representation by law.

Employers who don’t pay at least the National Minimum Wage, particularly in the bar and hospitality industry, should face serious sanctions.

We will seek to end all government subsidies to those companies who don’t pay the living wage, and to companies who use blacklists or other union busting tactics.

Planning legislation should be amended to give local authorities the indisputable right to refuse‎ planning applications from businesses with lacking employment standards.

pensioners.jpg

Pensioner

RISE FOR PENSIONER SECURITY

For too long, private companies have been ripping off our must vulnerable pensioners for a quick profit.

RISE wants to take all social care into the public sector, so that there’s proper regulation of care services for older citizen’s, and so every older person in Scotland is given the care that they need, carers who are fully trained, properly paid, and able to provide full care rather than being overworked and underpaid.

By expanding and improving the care system, we’ll save the NHS’s overcrowded resources.

schools.jpg

Schools

RISE FOR SCHOOLS

Private schools mean the rich buy privilege and social access for their children; those who attend private school have significantly better life chances than those at comprehensives, for private schools enable pupils to get ahead in terms of higher education and employment.

Private schools seriously hinder the chances for social equality. RISE wants to abolish them.

In immediate terms, we’ll campaign to end their “charitable” status which allows private schools avoid paying up to 80% of their taxes, whilst reducing the fee costs for wealthy parents.

In state schools, the so-called ‘attainment gap’ will not be solved by national testing, which only creates damaging competition and league tables, but instead by creating an education system that is truly equal, where all children are given opportunities to prosper.

landreform.jpg

Land Reform

RISE FOR RADICAL LAND REFORM

Wealthy landowners are standing in the way of urgent land reform.

We will allow communities to purchase land regardless of the landlord’s wishes. When a community exerts their democratic right to control their resources, their rights will be compulsory, and the landlord will be forced to sell.

This will allow us to address the huge land inequalities in Scotland, which allows less than 500 private individuals and companies to own more than 50% of land in Scotland.

independence.jpg

Independence

RISE FOR A SECOND REFERENDUM

RISE favours a democratic Scottish republic which puts power in the hands of the Scottish people and sweeps away Westminster’s undemocratic British institutions like the monarchy and the sterling currency.

Scotland should exit the NATO alliance, whose aggressive military tactics are making the world unsafe.

We firmly assert that the issue of if and when to hold an independence referendum is solely a matter for the Scottish parliament, free from any Westminster veto.

policing.jpg

Policing

RISE FOR JUSTICE

RISE wants Police Scotland abolished: police forces should come under local community control.

Practices like “stop and search” and armed policing should end. Likewise, the Offensive Behaviour Act should be scrapped. RISE also believes we can save millions, while improving public health and safety, by decriminalising certain drugs.

Police and prison solutions to the harm of drug addiction are only empowering drug dealers. We need a smarter solution that focuses on prevention, rehabilitation, and community cohesion.

RISE FOR REFUGEES

We will campaign to ensure that no refugees in Scotland are detained, and that Dungavel is shut down.

We will ensure that refugees receive free language lessons if necessary, public transport, food, clothing and social housing at a standard any citizen could expect.

abortion.jpg

Choice

RISE FOR CHOICE

We will work with other organisations to campaign for abortion to be on demand and to end the need for two doctors to sign-off on abortion requests.

Referrals should not and cannot be denied on religious grounds; nor can contraceptive methods be denied on religious grounds.

We will seek cross party support to invest in abortion services, including aftercare, and to cut down on waiting times.

welfare.jpg

Welfare

RISE FOR WELFARE

RISE will establish a new public institution which mainstreams welfare advice and delivers benefit administration.

This would firstly assist the public in navigating the complicated and degrading maze of Tory welfare policy. People would be able to find out exactly what they are entitled to claim, the same way that anyone can receive independent financial advice.

There are many who still suffer from the bedroom tax, because receiving mitigation payment is still complex.

Secondly, those suffering from the humiliating sanctions regime would be able to receive a grant to stop the starvation and desperation which goes along with the brutal regime. Assistance with appeals, tribunals and advocacy would also form part of its function.

Longer term, RISE will support the growing campaign for a basic citizens income.
